Blogging about social media for Nepal’s water and sanitation sector

March 1, 2010 1 comment

Members of a Nepal water and sanitation network will be Twittering and blogging about the potential use of social media in their sector at a workshop next week in Kathmandu. The IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre is organising a web workshop for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – Resource Centre Network Nepal (WASH-RCNN) from 11-12 March. This will be preceded by a one-day workshop on further development of the WASH-RCNN web site.

The workshop will help participants develop web writing skills that they can immediately put into practice by contributing to a workshop blog. By adding videos, images and Twitter feeds to their blog posts, they will hopefully be inspired to incorporate social media in the web sites of the WASH-RCNN and its member organisations.

With so many tools available, from social networking sites like Facebook to social bookmarking sites like Delicious, which would work best for the WASH sector in Nepal? The participants may not come up with an answer immediately, but the workshop should point them in the right direction.

IRC has been supporting the WASH-RCNN since its inception in 2003. Current members include Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO) (Secretariat), Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH), Integrated Development Society Nepal (IDS), WaterAid Nepal, Friends Service Council Nepal and Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS).
